Deep cleaning vs regular cleaning: which do you need?

The simplest way to think about it: a deep clean creates a standard, and a regular clean maintains one. Booking the wrong one is the most common reason people are disappointed by a first visit.

Regular cleaning

A regular clean is a repeatable visit on a fixed scope — kitchen, bathrooms, dusting, floors, bins — sized to fit a set amount of time. It works brilliantly on a property that's already at a decent baseline, because nothing has had a chance to build up.

What it isn't designed to do is fix months of accumulation. If a shower screen is heavily limescaled, an hour of a regular visit spent on it means the rest of the house doesn't get done.

Deep cleaning

A deep clean is longer, slower and more detailed. Things get moved. Oven interiors, grout, extractor grease, skirtings, sills and radiators all get proper attention. It's a reset, not a routine.

How to tell which you need

Walk through your own house and look at four things:

  • The shower screen and grout — visible limescale or discolouration means deep clean.
  • The oven door glass — if you can't see through it clearly, deep clean.
  • Skirting boards behind furniture — a visible line of dust means deep clean.
  • Extractor filter above the hob — if it's tacky to touch, deep clean.

If none of those apply, regular cleaning will keep the house exactly where you want it. If two or more do, start with a deep clean and then go regular — every visit afterwards goes further.

The usual sequence

For most households that have never used a cleaner before, one deep clean followed by fortnightly visits is the arrangement that works. The first clean does the catching up; the ongoing visits mean it never needs catching up again.

We'll tell you honestly which one your property needs when we quote. There's no benefit to us in selling you a deep clean you don't require — the regular arrangement is the relationship that matters.
